Four children killed after man armed with hatchet attacked kindergarten in Brazil | world news

A man armed with a hatchet “climbed the walls” of a kindergarten in Brazil, killing four children and injuring at least three others.
Governor of the State of Santa Catarina Jorginho Mello confirmed the killings in the southern Brazilian city of Blumenau.
He went to Twitter and said the killer was arrested.
Firefighters also confirmed that the man had attacked the children with a hatchet and three kindergarten children were taken to the hospital.
Photos and videos showed crying parents outside the private daycare called Cantinho do Bom Pastor.
Local media reported the attacker scaled a wall to enter the child’s room with a hatchet.
Attacks on schools were uncommon in Brazil but have become more common in recent years.
Last week in Sao Paulo, a student stabbed a teacher, killing her and injuring several others in the city.
Mr Mello wrote on Twitter: “May God comfort the hearts of all families at this moment of deep pain.”
Blumenau, a town of 366,000, is famous for its annual Oktoberfest.
