AS Monaco confirmed that Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas is set to leave the club at the end of the month.

The Spaniard joined the French side in 2019 after falling out of favor at Stamford Bridge.

However, he has struggled with injuries and only made two Ligue 1 appearances last season.

On Saturday morning, Monaco announced that the 35-year-old will leave after his contract expires.

A statement read: “The midfielder with more than 830 career games, whose contract is expiring, is leaving the Principality club three and a half years after his arrival.”

In three and a half years with Monaco, Fabregas made 68 appearances and scored four goals.

He told French media last month that despite his recent fitness woes, he does not want to retire.

The midfielder is well regarded in England after strong performances at the Emirates and Stamford Bridge.

He has made 350 Premier League appearances and won two titles with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017.

During his three-year spell at Barcelona between 2011 and 2014, he won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Speak with Foot said: “My contract expires in June next year and I’m looking for a fresh start. My head needs a fresh start somewhere else.

“To be honest I’ve already had two or three calls from some of my former coaches over the last two weeks to find out what I wanted to do, to see if I’d like to join them as a coach this summer.

“But this year has been so bad that I can’t deal with it. Not after building this career. I want to keep playing. I’m thankful for the career I’ve had, but I don’t feel like it’s over.

“I’m open to anything, I just want to have fun. The location doesn’t really matter, it’s more my head that counts. When I’m fit I feel really good, when I’m training with my teammates I’m no different when it comes to passion for the game.”
