Footie fans flock to the pub, mistakenly believing that World Cup games are being shown there

A football-free pub has to turn England fans away because their Christmas decorations look like a St George’s Cross.
The Greyhound Inn in Wilton, Wiltshire was wrapped in a giant red ribbon for the festive season.
But bewildered football fans think it’s a patriotic display from England’s World Cup team and flock to the pub to watch the games – which they don’t show.
At least a dozen fans have already turned up in hopes of a pint in front of the TV and more are expected on Friday when England play USA.
Landlady Nikki McNulty, 39, said she was known as the “Crazy Christmas Lady” for her decadent performances.
“Once November comes around, I want to line everything up and make everything really festive,” she said.
“Every year I like to do something completely different, so I thought this year I’m going to make the pub look like a huge gift. Well that was the plan.
“The next day everyone on Facebook and chatting in the local community group was like, ‘Oh how nice it is that The Greyhound supports football’ so we had to politely say we won’t be showing it.”
Ms McNulty put up the decorations with her husband Graeme and the pub’s staff on Sunday while enjoying a glass or two of mulled wine.
She admitted it looks like St George’s Cross, so she can understand the confusion, but at least the locals have “a little giggle”.
“I think it’s pretty funny now looking back,” she added.
