Florida: Wait Alligator easily breaks through metal fence
An alligator smashed through a metal fence on a golf course, forcing it to bend with shocking ease.
A video from the episode shows a large alligator approaching the fence of a private golf course in Placida, Florida. It sticks its nose through one of the evenly spaced gaps and gets its head through with seemingly no effort. The reptile then climbs into the hole with its two front legs and quickly gets half of its body through.
The “brand new fence” was installed “to keep intruders out and to keep bystanders safe,” said a golf course employee, identified as Zach.
“We were trying to dig holes for it to sink before it decided to go through the fence,” Zach, whose colleague recorded the video, told Jam Press.
The video, shared by WINK meteorologist Matt Devittcuts off while the alligator has plowed halfway through the fence, leaving viewers wondering what happened.
“He got stuck in between and we had to help him, but the fence, which is made of aluminum, got damaged,” Devitt said, adding that it was made of a “lightweight material.”
The alligator “finally made it,” he confirmed.
Devitt’s video has garnered more than a million views on Facebook.
There are more than 1.3 million alligators in the state, according to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Department, but attacks are not common.
A rare attack occurred last month at the Spanish Lakes Fairways retirement community in Fort Pierce, about 70 miles north of West Palm Beach. A wildlife surveillance camera captured the terrifying moment when a 10-foot alligator suddenly emerged from a body of water as an 85-year-old woman was walking her dog. The alligator walked behind the small dog, which ran, and the reptile pulled the woman into the water.
And earlier this month, a Daytona Beach, Fla. man opened his front door thinking someone was looking for his son – and was bitten on his thigh by a 10-foot alligator. He recovers and the alligator was captured and euthanized.
