Florida unemployment rate falls to 2.6% in November

Florida added 28,100 new jobs in November and its unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 2.6%, a new reading Monthly job report published by the state shows.

The figures put the state’s trailing-12-month job creation rate at 4.7% — or 1.4 points higher than the national rate — during that period.

“Florida’s continued success over the past two years is no accident. Regardless of the challenges, we’ve stayed on the offense,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a released statement.

“Florida’s economy is outpacing the nation for the second year in a row because we’ve invested in our workforce and worked as a priority to keep Floridas in the workplace and businesses open. As the new year approaches, we will continue to invest in our workforce and infrastructure to create jobs and fuel our economy.”

There are now 280,000 unemployed residents in Florida out of a workforce of 10.8 million.

Tourism, Florida’s top industry, has went further up following the recovery from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Around 97,000 jobs have been created in the leisure and hospitality sector over the last 12 months, the most of any industry. It is followed by trade, transport and utilities (85,400 jobs), and education and health services (76,800 jobs).

However, some areas of the economy suffered over the past month as seasonally adjusted numbers show the state cut 3,000 finances insurance jobs and 4,700 waste service jobs. However, both sectors have risen over the past year.

“While DC liberals and blue states still fuel their self-inflicted inflation and supply chain woes, Governor DeSantis has continued his impeachment for Freedom First policies and as a result Florida is literally hedging itself against a recession, expanding its workforce and supports new business and innovation and leading the country’s economic recovery,” the outgoing secretary of the Department of Economic Opportunities Danish eagle said in a released statement.
