A man is said to have locked his daughter’s three dogs in a car for three days in the scorching heat, resulting in her death.
Felton Charles Henderson’s daughter was preparing to leave town for a few days, leaving her dogs with him to be tended to, according to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons.
The daughter left essential supplies for her pups before she left, but her father locked her in the Toyota Camry without her, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
“She left water, she left food, whatever it takes to take care of these dogs,” Simmons said. “When she came back after a few days, she asked where her dogs were.”
When the daughter came home, her father took her to the car and showed her the dead dogs.
The temperature in Cantonment, Fla., exceeded 90 degrees Fahrenheit on all three days that the man kept the dogs in the car.
“It’s obvious he just put those dogs in today’s heat, in yesterday’s heat, the day before yesterday’s heat – caged those dogs, he put those dogs in his blue Toyota Camry, knowingly.” that they would not survive,” he told Simmons.
“You can imagine the suffering they probably went through.”
Henderson, 72, of Cantonment, was arrested Thursday and charged with animal cruelty.
“That’s not how you treat an animal,” Simmons said. “They rely on you to take care of them and take care of them and you have done none of that. So you’re going to jail.’
