Flights were diverted after the control tower was evacuated due to gas fumes

Sydney Airport’s control tower was evacuated on Sunday morning due to gas fumes escaping through the air conditioning system, causing two international flights to be diverted.
Airservices Australia said the tower had been evacuated for an hour and its ambulance service was present.
“No one was injured in the incident,” said a statement released just before 9 a.m. Sunday. “All air traffic control services are now restored.”

A spokesman for Fire and Rescue NSW said they were called to an alarm in the Airservices Australia control tower at around 7.03am.
A truck responded and was at the scene for about 10 minutes due to a “minor leak of refrigerant gas”.
Airservices Australia said a ground stop and a notice to pilots and industry had been cancelled.
As a result, two international flights were diverted.
United Airlines Flight UA863 from San Francisco to Sydney was diverted to Brisbane, while United Airlines Flight UA101 from Houston to Sydney landed in Canberra at approximately 8:13 a.m. AEDT.
