First Date bartender Merlin Griffiths has given his fans and followers an update as he’s recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery to remove his tumor and joked that he’s still “alive”.
In September last yearthe Channel 4 star announced he had been diagnosed colon cancer.
He’s been keeping fans updated on his journey ever since, sharing earlier this week that it was time to have his tumor removed.
Hours later, the 46-year-old updated fans and thanked the NHS for their life-saving work.
“Thank you #NHS for literally saving my life,” he tweeted on Friday, along with a selfie of him in his hospital bed and a picture of an operative machine used for the surgery.
He had previously posted a picture of himself in bed on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “2am. Everywhere tubes out. discomfort and pain. But no tumor!’
On Monday afternoon, the reality star took to Twitter with another hospital bed selfie.
Wearing both a hospital gown and a robe, the reality star happily gave the camera a thumbs-up as he smiled.
‘Almost there. One more day and then home,” he captioned the photo, adding the hashtags “#bowelcancer” and “#stoma” and the more tongue-in-cheek “#alive.”
One fan commented that they were “happy for” Merlin as they shared that their father recently left the hospital with a stoma.
“Go on, you’ve got that,” they added, to which Merlin replied, “Did he name his stoma?” #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth.”
April marks Colon Cancer Month, which the professional barman and pub owner drew attention to in previous posts.
Merlin announced last month that he was preparing for surgery after explaining his stage three tumor was discovered after he went to hospital with symptoms including bloating and nausea.
Chrissie Wunna, actress and former First Dates star, shared her support and love for the popular Channel 4 reality TV star, commenting a series of hearts under his Instagram post, as did waitress Cici Coleman.
Fans also rushed to comment with support and well wishes, with many sharing hearts and supporting his recovery.
First Dates airs Thursdays at 10pm on Channel 4.
