Fire officials investigate deadly Haverhill blaze – Boston News, Weather, Sports

HAVERHILL, MASS. (WHDH) – Firefighters are investigating a fire in Haverhill that has killed one person and their dog, officials said.
Firefighters responding to a reported building fire around 4:45 p.m. found smoke coming from the second floor of an apartment building, according to a joint statement by Haverhill Fire Chief Robert M. O’Brien, Haverhill Police Chief Robert P. Pistone, and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker.
Inside, firefighters found one person and a dog with fatal injuries. Firefighters managed to contain the fire on the source unit. The person’s name was not released.
The origin and cause of the fire continue to be investigated jointly by the Haverhill Fire Department, Haverhill Police Department and State Police, which are attached to the Essex Attorney’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Offices.
