Fire at Croydon hospital forces 100 people to evacuate from emergency room

A fire at a southern hospital London has resulted in 80 people being evacuated from accidents and emergencies.
Croydon University Hospital said patients had been moved to other parts of the hospital to continue their treatment after the fire broke out around 3pm.
The Daily Mirror reported that a room on the ground floor of the hospital was “100 per cent destroyed” by the fire.
The hospital said its emergency room will remain closed “temporarily” and urged people in the local community to call 111 if they need urgent help so they can be directed to the nearest services.
A statement said: “Our staff and London Fire Brigade responded quickly to the alarm, which went off at 2:58pm.
“A total of 80 patients were safely evacuated from the emergency room to continue their treatment in other parts of the hospital and we have discharged those patients who are well enough to go home.”
