Fatal car crash closes Epping Road

An 84-year-old man was killed in a car crash on Saturday afternoon, forcing police to close all but one lane of Epping Road in north-west Sydney.

Before 4pm, emergency services were called to a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Epping Road and Culloden Road in Marsfield.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance treated a 60-year-old male driver and his 84-year-old passenger after their Subaru Imprezza collided with a Toyota Camry being driven by a 66-year-old woman.

Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the elderly man died at the scene of the accident.

Both drivers were taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital in stable condition.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command have identified a crime scene and are directing motorists to Herring Road or Balaclava Road.

Epping Road is closed westbound and two of the three eastbound lanes are closed as of 5:49 p.m.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and expect significant delays.
