Families informed of rat problem at Plymouth Elementary School – Boston News, Weather, Sports

PLYMOUTH, MASS. (WHDH) – School officials are alerting parents to a rat problem at Plymouth’s South Elementary School, a warning that has some parents keeping their children at home while officials work to solve the problem.
Steve Hall said he kept his third grader away from school on Monday after receiving the call.
“Having rats in the cafeteria is a big thing to really contain and control,” he said.
In a call to families, Headmaster Dan Harold said: “Good morning parents, Mr Harold is calling. I know some of you have heard that we have a little rodent problem here at South Elementary. The district contracts with a pest control company that has monitored and taken care of all of our schools. But we decided to hire a company that specializes in this area.”
The city’s Department of Health is now stepping in, its director telling 7NEWS that exterminators will arrive outside the school on Tuesday morning to take a non-chemical approach to the problem.
The process to resolve the issue is expected to take at least two weeks.
