“Everything Everywhere at Once” was awarded as best film

For a moment it seemed so nothing new in the West could cause excitement. The Netflix war film has won multiple awards, including Best International Feature Film (as expected), Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. But when it came time to present the biggest award of the 2023 Oscars, the front runner prevailed: Everywhere everywhere at once Best film won.

Best Multiverse Movie of 2022 became the second A24 film to win Best Picture, followed by moonlight. There was no envelope drama this time. Everything everywhere at once also won Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. As noted by Kyle Buchanan from the New York Times“With 3 wins as an actor, plus best director and best film, ALL EVERYWHERE AT ONCE has won more over-the-line Oscars than any other film in the 95 years they’ve been on this show.” Pretty good for an indie film with a raccoon chef.

You can watch the history-making moment below.

“I was so happy,” said Daniel Kwan, one half of the Daniels directing duo Uproxx on the reaction to Everywhere Everything All at Once. “Because they didn’t understand how we could have done what we want to do. We want to constantly show people that things are not always the way they should be.”
