EU sanctions: EU proposes sanctions against Russian coal, shipping
The EU executive on Tuesday proposed a new wave of sanctions against Russia that would include a ban on coal imports and barring Russian ships from entering European ports.
“Russia is waging a cruel, ruthless war, including against the civilian population of Ukraine. We have to exert the greatest possible pressure at this critical point, ”said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a video speech.
The proposal, which is part of the bloc’s planned fifth wave of sanctions since the February 24 invasion, must be approved unanimously by the 27 EU member states.
