Enter to win prizes while supporting Sugar House businesses during construction

Multiple businesses are impacted while Highland Drive is reduced to a single one-way street.

To help the Sugar House neighborhood businesses with several building projects, the Sugar House Chamber and Community Alliance is running a campaign called Shop Sugar House – where people can win prizes while supporting these businesses and also knowing that they are helping their Putting money to good use Working in the community.

Construction of Highland Drive has begun, meaning the thoroughfare between Wilmington Avenue and 2700 South has been reduced to a single southbound one-way street. Several businesses on or near Highland Drive are affected by this closure including Black Cat Comics, Bruges Belgian Bistro, Patagonia Outlet and others.

Greg Gage, owner of Black Cat Comics, said that since construction began we’ve “slowed down a bit. It’s obviously not the best, far from it.”

He told The Salt Lake Tribune that he hadn’t heard about the Shop Sugar House campaign, but said “anything would help keep this going”.

To enter Shop Sugar House, people can take a picture of their purchase at a Sugar House store, then go to ShopSugarHouse.org and click Submit Listing. There you can upload your photo and enter a prize draw including merchandise and gift cards from local businesses and Visa gift cards. Entrants are also encouraged to post their photo on social media using the hashtag #ShopSugarHouse.

Participants can also submit photos of activities, e.g. Enjoy the views at Sugar House Park, participate in the Sugar House Art Walk or play pinball at the Quarters Arcade Bar.

“We have a unique business district that has something for everyone,” said Sugar House Chamber Co-Chair Brandon Hill. “So come out, dine with us, shop with us, enjoy our parks and landscapes and tag us on social media. We really hope the community will rally behind this campaign and show their love to our local businesses.”

Winners are drawn monthly, Hill said, but draws may happen more often depending on attendance.

The Chamber also hosts a live music series at Monument Plaza called Sugar House Rocks. The premiere is scheduled for April 21 with Salt Lake City rock band The Medicine Company.
