ELON Musk plans to unveil a prototype of Tesla’s humanoid robot in September.
Billionaire Musk said he’s moving Tesla’s “AI Day” from August to September in hopes of showcasing his Optimus bot.
“Tesla AI Day has been pushed back to September 30 as we may have a working Optimus prototype by then,” the Tesla CEO said tweeted on Thursday.
The news came as a shock to many Twitter users, as Musk had predicted the robot would be ready in 2023.
Tesla’s Optimus bot
Optimus is an unreleased product that is being developed with the intention of serving as an all-purpose robot that can perform everyday tasks such as: B. shopping in the supermarket.
Musk has revealed that the Tesla bot is “intended to be friendly.”
It will be 5 feet 8 inches tall and will weigh a realistic 125 pounds.
Optimus will be equipped with multiple cameras, sensors and self-driving software.
The “friendly” bot will also be able to carry up to 45 pounds and travel at speeds of up to 8 km/h.
And just to be on the safe side, the billionaire has assured that the humanoid will be upgraded to a mechanical and physical level that will make it easy for humans to outrun and overpower him.
A “significant” product
At last year’s Tesla AI Day, Musk stated, “Physical labor is going to be a choice going forward. If you want to do it, you can, but you don’t have to.”
That’s why the billionaire CEO said the humanoid robot could be the most significant product Tesla is working on in 2022.
“In terms of product priority, I think the most important product development we’re doing this year is the Optimus humanoid robot,” Musk said Wednesday at Tesla’s fourth-quarter 2021 earnings report.
Tesla’s Director of Artificial Intelligence, Andrej Karpathy, has said that he believes the Tesla Bot is “on track to become the most powerful AI development platform.”
If this forecast comes true, it would propel the growth of Tesla, which already broke sales records in 2021, to astronomical heights.
