ELON Musk shared another insight into his personal philosophy for the future of humanity on Twitter.
The richest person in the world praised a book apparently full of big picture thinking and other arguments made by Musk himself.
The upcoming book is called What We Owe The Future and is written by Oxford philosopher William MacAskill.
“Worth reading. It fits very well with my philosophy,” Musk continued in the promotion for the book Twitter.
Of late, Musk has shared more philosophical views and criticism of the media – he posted minimally about his legal battle with Twitter.
Musk spelled out the need rethink the future as very urgent, and MacAskill’s book purportedly explains this idea.
“The written history of mankind spans only 5,000 years. Our future could last millions more – or it could end tomorrow,” MacAskill said in a video promoting the book.
“I advocate an idea called long-termism: Positively influencing the very long-term future is a key moral priority of our time,” continued MacAskill.
MacAskill admits the book makes some “counterintuitive” arguments, including the notion that the world is actually underpopulated.
Musk often posts about declining birth rates, and in 2019 he told an audience at the World AI Conference that it was “the biggest problem facing the world in 20 years.” population collapse“.
MacAskill says his book touches on the possibility of reinventing society after a doomsday catastrophe.
“By acting wisely, we can put humanity on the right course,” concludes MacAskill.
Along the same lines, Musk has long held the position that humans should become a multiplanetary species in order to prolong human existence and maximize the chances that we will interact with an extraterrestrial species in the universe.
The Twitter takeover seems trivial compared to Musk’s personal mission to transform humanity’s distant future.
Before any lawsuits erupted, Musk admitted he spends less than 5% of his time thinking about Twitter.
MacAskill’s book was pre-ordered in April and will be available August 16, but Musk’s confirmation sounds like he has access to an expanded edition.
MacAskill’s work is the latest in a long line of Musk’s top books, which include Nick Bostrom’s signature book on artificial intelligence, Superintelligence, and other science- and philosophy-heavy works.
