Elite divers warm up on side of Boston building ahead of World Series – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — Thousands of spectators are expected at Boston’s Seaport on Saturday for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

Two dozen of the best cliff divers in the world have completed some practice dives on the platform in front of the Institute of Contemporary Art.

“I wouldn’t say I’m much of an adrenaline junkie, I get really scared up there every time,” said diver Owen Weymouth. “But I love the feeling of overcoming that fear and having that fear on that platform, then flying through the air and then you conquered that fear and did a new dive.”

The event makes Boston its first and only stop in North America.

“It feels really good to be in a city that understands sport. That lives for the sport. We feel the appreciation of the people,” said sporting director Orlando Duque. “It’s really nice to bring another sport with me. Something a little unusual.”

The cool New England waters of Boston Harbor gave divers a jolt during the prelims of the competition.

“I think the water’s about 55 degrees right now,” Weymouth said. “But luckily they have a hot tub.”

The competition is expected to start at 2 p.m
