Edu says he is “very excited” about Arsenal’s transfer window after the club agreed a £34million deal for Fabio Vieira.
The 22-year-old midfielder arrived from Porto on Tuesday as the Gunners continue to push for them Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
And Edu says Arsenal’s summer window will be a culmination of months of planning.
“When you go into summer, when you start summer [transfer window]we’re planning six months, seven months or eight months before we face summer,” Edu told Arsenal’s official website.
“The summer is just a consequence of what we’ve been working on a lot, to find the best players and the best targets, to really realize what we need in the squad, so when we start [the summer] We are prepared.
“Fabio is a good example because we acted quickly, because we prepared a long time ago to have Fabio and then when we deal with that, we make things happen.”
When asked if investing in youth is a core part of Arsenal’s transfer plan, Edu said: “One hundred percent.
“That has to be Arsenal. We have to search the market for exciting players with the right age, attitude and mentality. We want to see a club like Arsenal with a young squad, an exciting squad with a big, big future because like I said last summer it’s about having a young squad.
“We want to give them the opportunity to play together for two, three, four, five or six seasons.
“We still have work to do, but we’re really looking forward to starting the season with the players we’re targeting and wanting to sign.”
Asked what the next few weeks will bring for Arsenal, Edu said: “Yeah, I’m quite excited.
I think we have some good conversations and positive conversations to be fair.
“I hope we can bring some good news to the fans.”
