An Austin, Texas judge has issued an arrest warrant for former All-Pro security guard Earl Thomas Austin American statesman reports.
Police say Thomas violated a court protection order by sending a woman threatening messages about her and her children. Court records obtained from the American statesman Note that the warrant was signed on April 27, charging Thomas with a third-degree felony alleging he violated the protective order twice or more in a 12-month period.
As of Friday afternoon, Thomas had not been booked into the Travis County Jail.
Trey Dolezal, an Austin attorney and sports agent who is representing Thomas in an ongoing divorce, says the warrant came about because Thomas contacted his wife to see their children. He added that he sent a message to Thomas to let him know about the warrant.
“They consciously and collectively worked together to see his children,” Dolezal told dem American statesman. “I don’t really see how he could hurt himself by working together to visit his kids.”
The protective order said Thomas was only allowed to communicate with the woman through a co-parent phone application. The woman told police Thomas was unwilling to download the app and instead called and arrived unannounced.
More recently, Thomas is said to have started sending the woman threatening text messages about her and her children. Police say Thomas texted the woman on April 18 telling her he had been given two handguns. Later that day, he wrote, “Waiting hand to foot is why I’m gonna kick your ass.”
The next day, police say Thomas sent the following text messages: “I hope you ride in the car with him and the kids and pull off the road.” and “I’ll let my mother and my cousins be theirs poison (their children) ass.”
Nina Thomas, Earl Thomas’ wife, filed for divorce in November 2020. That came after she was arrested by police in May 2020 when she allegedly pointed a loaded gun at Earl Thomas’ head after breaking into a holiday home and finding him another woman.
Thomas joined the NFL in 2010 as the Seattle Seahawks’ first round draft choice. He spent nine years in the franchise before signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. In August 2020, Thomas got into an altercation with fellow Ravens Safety colleague Chuck Clark and was eventually cut by the team after punching Clark during practice. A few weeks ago Thomasafter a two year break.
