Bluetooth audio accessories of all kinds can be found in abundance, and true wireless earbuds are the most competitive, especially on the affordable end of the spectrum. In order to be one step ahead, precision at the highest level and a perfect price-performance ratio are required. Freshly minted, the EarFun Air S earbuds have only just entered this cutthroat arena.
EarFun is by no means a new player in the game, which gives it an edge over some of the other competitors. Already experienced in making some of the best cheap earbuds, the brand is raising the bar for their latest pair of wireless buds.
Going into this review I wasn’t concerned at all as EarFun has a proven track record with the Air Pro 2 and Free earbuds. The question I really wanted to answer was this: how good can these buds be? As it turns out, these wireless headphones are spectacular in most aspects.
price and availability
EarFun launched the EarFun Air S true wireless earphones in mid-August 2022. You can buy them in a single color from Amazon or EarFun direct.
Although these stylish buds normally retail for $69.99, you can get 25% off the retail price by using the promo code “EFAIRS52“ at Amazon. This brings the price down to $52.49 until the special offer expires on September 30, 2022.
so much to love
The EarFun Air S true wireless earbuds look sleek, as does the charging case. It has a premium feel and the black color has an interesting shimmery sheen to it. The lid opens very satisfactorily and the hinge feels extremely solid. You will be amazed by the quality and looks of these cute bluetooth earphones.
Stored in the flat oval case, the earbuds have a wand-like design that makes them look sleek, mean, and sexy. You also get four extra ear tips in the box to help you find the perfect fit for your ears. EarFun went for a really light and comfortable design with a secure fit for this model. The end result is an ergonomic pair of buds that you can wear for hours.

The luxurious nature of these earphones does not end with their presentation or manufacture. The guts are as premium as the exterior, giving you premium features like wireless charging. If you prefer to charge your EarFun Air S TWS earbuds with a cable, there is a USB-C charging port on the back. EarFun offers other accessories in the box, like a Type-C cable and a small Q-Tip for cleaning the buds.
The playback of these Bluetooth earphones is incredibly persistent. Factoring in the case, you get around 30 hours total on a single charge, and turning on the active noise-cancelling mode cuts that down to around 25 hours, which is still pretty impressive. When the battery is low, you can use the EarFun Air S buds’ quick charge feature to get two hours of playback on a quick ten-minute charge.
EarFun Air S wireless in-ear headphones are powered by the Qualcomm QCC3046 chipset. These earbuds feature 10mm wool composite drivers and support Qualcomm aptX, AAC and SBC audio codecs. EarFun creates a near-pristine soundstage for most people, with high clarity and perfect highs. The mids and lows are well balanced and the tone sounds fruity and lively. I’ve found it incredibly comfortable in a variety of music genres, as well as media content like vlogs and movies.
There’s a custom EQ in the companion app if you want to play around with the sound and personalize it to your ears. An app with an equalizer gives you more control over what consumers earn, especially if they pay a premium for the product in question. However, to my surprise and delight, I found no need to change the default. This is one of the rear sets of wireless earbuds that I didn’t immediately fiddle with when accessing the equalizer.
The noise cancellation on these buds is excellent, and you can always turn on transparency if you need to hear important sounds like traffic noise or a child’s crying. While the ANC won’t knock out flagships like the Sony WF-1000XM4, EarFun’s buds valiantly defend themselves against budget-friendly competitors closer to their own price tag. EarFun has also integrated a gaming mode into the Air S wireless earbuds, combined with a low 100ms latency to make them your ideal gaming partner alongside playing music, taking calls and consuming other media content.
These fun and trendy buds from EarFun support multipoint connections, so you can seamlessly connect to two devices at the same time. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.2 and a range of 15 m, I had no interruptions during my tests. The touch controls on the EarFun Air S true wireless earbuds are fantastic, responsive exactly when you want them to respond.
Call quality in these buds is top-notch thanks to the Quad Mic system and cVc 8.0 technology in the EarFun Air S Bluetooth earbuds. The audio is crisp and clear, and minimal background noise is transmitted to the receiving end.
Very little to hate
What goes up must come down, as the saying goes. This wonderful pair of true wireless earbuds from EarFun does so many things right. For me they are the perfect headphones for almost everyone. Still, there is one small fact that might ruffle a few feathers.
If you enjoy swimming with your earbuds on, you might have concerns about the EarFun Air S buds’ waterproof rating. Some may not find IPX5 sufficiently durable for their needs as it is only resistant to sweat and light water splashes. You don’t want to douse them with liquid or jump in the pool with these buds. In this case, this is undoubtedly a downer.
EarFun Air S true wireless earbuds compete in a crowded market. For comparison, let’s look at the sub-$100 Bluetooth earbuds with similar specs.
Anker’s Soundcore Life P3 buds are a great alternative that come in five sparkling colors. Soundcore promises 35 hours with ANC off, five hours longer than the EarFun Air S buds. The Soundcore Life P3 buds are $10 more, but you’re missing out on an IP rating. Overall, the Anker Soundcore offers good value for money with wireless charging, a great app, and six microphones.
Another similar pair of Bluetooth earbuds with the same Qualcomm QCC3046 chipset and wireless charging is the Tronsmart Apollo Air+. You get excellent sound production, but the optics department suffers from the bland, glossy design. The Apollo Air+ true wireless earbuds don’t have the same great battery life, but they’re more rugged thanks to their IP45 water and dust resistance. Not to mention their price has now dropped to $50.
Creative Outlier Pro earbuds are another standout pair to consider. These are some of the best looking buds I’ve ever seen, with a charging case straight from the future. They’re more expensive, but you’ll be ecstatic when you experience the insane 60-hour battery life. Creative includes ANC, wireless charging, and some other decent features.
Should you buy these earplugs?
You should buy these buds if…
- You value a well-rounded sound
- Wireless charging is important to you
- You want great battery life
- You need a custom EQ
- You need buds with ANC and an ambient mode
- Low latency is a plus
You should not buy these buds if…
- They need more robust water and dust resistance
So far, I know I’ve raved a lot about the benefits of the EarFun Air S earbuds. To put things in perspective, understand that I am reviewing LOTS of wireless earbuds from many price points and brands. Earfun’s Air S buds are without a doubt the crown in the mid-range segment of the Bluetooth headphone market.
The EarFun Air S buds have many alternatives, but every other competitor has a greater number of disadvantages. Some competitors are more enduring and robust, others are not. So the IPX5 rating just isn’t enough for me to deduct points from the overall package you get.
Buy the EarFun Air S true wireless earbuds without reservations, whether for casual, professional or enthusiast use. They work just as well at the gym as when gaming or streaming music. You won’t find much, if any, to dislike. These earbuds are a fine example of in-ear Bluetooth earbuds done right. They’re very comfortable, produce perfect-sounding audio, allow you to customize the sound, and have great battery life.
EarFun’s Air S wireless earphones have carefully curated specifications and features that leave nothing to be desired. These buds are pleasant, functional and fun! You get ANC, splash-proofing, wireless charging, and great battery life.
