Drivers take it easy with rolling shutdowns on Green Line D turn – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — Work was underway on the first day of continuous service disruption for the Green Line D branch as the MBTA began repair and upgrade work.

Shuttle buses were back on the roads on Saturday to replace service between Kenmore and Riverside through October 2 during the first of three 9-day shutdowns to take place in the coming weeks.

Drivers were frustrated by the inconvenience, but some welcomed the improvements the T is aiming for.

“I think they’re making necessary improvements,” said commuter Seth Kaplan. “We have underinvested in the transit system for decades.”

The MBTA said it has 15 ADA-compliant buses operating on shuttle routes, while some drivers have raised concerns about accessibility issues that the closures could pose.

“It’s very frustrating,” said Barbara Lischinsky, who suffers from mobility problems. “I thought we were done with that. I understand the need for security, but I also understand the need for access for all.”

The T said all D branch stops will have shuttle service except Beaconsfield, and recommends passengers walk four minutes to the C branch, or take a 10-minute walk to another Green Line D branch with To make shuttle bus service as an alternative to the service from this stop.

The full list of closure dates includes:

  • 24 Sept-Oct 2
  • 8 Oct-Oct 16
  • Oct 22-Oct 30

MBTA officials previously said this is expected to be the final Green Line closure for the foreseeable future.
