CLAYTON, Mo. — The acting director of the St. Louis County Department of Health is stepping down this fall. An interim director will be appointed by Dr. Faisal Khan appointed on September 2nd.
“We value the passion and leadership of Dr. Khan and wish him well in his next chapter,” writes County Executive Dr. Sam Page. “Like health directors across the country, he faced severe criticism, including threats to his life, for following science and data in his decisions to protect our community from a deadly virus.”
“It has been an honor and privilege to have worked in the public service with selflessly dedicated professionals who will continue their selfless commitment to the health and well-being of St. Louis County residents,” said Dr. Khan.
St. Louis County Council voted in 2021 to nominate Dr. Faisal Khan not to be confirmed as permanent director of health after heated meeting over mask regulation Khan emailed staff ahead of the vote, calling some critics “the mad fringe.”
In July, Khan also made a rude gesture after a council meeting. This comes after he said he was humiliated, attacked and called racial slurs after speaking about masks during the meeting.
