Dozens of people take part in the polar plunge at the West Side Aquatic Center

“It’s refreshing, it’s pretty cool,” said Daniel Stromberg, who participated in the polar plunge.

The water temperature in the pool is about 45 degrees. Event fees help fund children’s swimming lessons scholarships – through Shanta’s Strong Swimming Fund.

“So back in December 2019, we lost one of our chief guardians from Highland Pool, her life tragically taking ours. And mom her we lost her in 2019 and she is studying to be a teacher it is her passion love teaching swimming so to keep her legacy also As our mission is to be a teacher and educate, we have developed Shanta’s Powerful Swimming Fund.”

10% of the proceeds will also be used to buy food for polar bears and penguins at the zoo.
