DoorDash Driver shows non-tipper pizza boxes

DoorDash driver tips remain a hot topic on TikTok as delivery drivers constantly need to remind customers of their importance.

A recent video by user @doordashtips2 shows a large stack of wrapped pizzas said to belong to customers who have chosen not to tip on the DoorDash app, sparking debate among DoorDash customers and drivers who viewed the video .

The text overlay reads, “Check out the Doordash Non Tippers Orders,” and the video uses the popular “Hide the money ya’ll; there are poor people around” sound. All of the orders in the video imply that unless a customer tips, their order is unlikely to be picked up by a DoorDash driver.

Many viewers who have experience driving for DoorDash or other food delivery services agreed not to pick up orders with low tips. “If it’s under $10, I don’t take it,” said one user.

However, the majority seemed to disagree and let @doordashtips2 know in the comments. Some users on the platform don’t see grocery delivery as a job that deserves a tip, with one person saying: “I wish I could tip the people who prepare my food and not the people who drive a car from point A to.” Drive to point B and call it hard work.” The video’s creator responded by simply saying, “No tip, no food.”

Others were just happy that they didn’t tip at all and still got their food on time. “I have never tipped and never will,” said one user. “Me, a non-tipper who still gets my food on time and hot and accurate and undisturbed,” said another.

Tipping is a standard in the hospitality industry, and delivery drivers are considered part of that economy. CNN Money states that delivering groceries can even be a dangerous job when delivered in dangerous areas or when the weather is bad. The website suggests tipping at least 10-20% and never assume any delivery charges go to the driver. However, many users feel that the delivery drivers are legitimate and that this is a no-win situation. “Even if you tip, some drivers will still get mad because they feel like they should have been tipped more,” one person said.

Some viewers who were on the receiving end of grocery deliveries pointed out that while they like tipping their drivers, it’s a gamble to tip before a service is complete. “Why would you tip before you get the food?” You don’t know what’s going to happen to the order,” one user asked. Another also argued that tips should be earned, saying, “Tips shouldn’t show up until after delivery.” He also stressed that he “don’t get a tip until I’ve given good service.”

However, not everyone felt that the drivers were asking too much. Many said they tip their DoorDash delivery drivers no matter the situation. One said: “I always tip quite a bit, and more if it’s over a few miles. Never missing items, always delivered promptly.” Another user wondered, “Why is it so hard for people to just tip… I always leave them at my door and give extra mercy if they don’t ring or knock.”
