DoorDash driver says customer threatened to hit him

A DoorDash driver took to TikTok to describe a recent incident in which a customer threatened to hit him after failing to show ID for a chili order that contained alcohol.

The video comes from a Houston-based creator, Maliek (@maliekr), who assures viewers that “a lot of shit happens out here in Houston” when he’s DoorDashing. He describes the incident with a customer named Micah as an example of this.

Before beginning his story about Micah, however, he made a quick detour to compliment Chili’s on allowing DoorDash drivers to stop at a curbside pickup area instead of going into the restaurant. He likens the experience to “a crispy Sprite from McDonald’s.”

He then started his story in earnest, noting that the order included a margarita and DoorDash has policies on ID scanning before a DoorDasher can give alcohol to a customer.

As the DoorDash website states in relation to delivering alcohol to customers: “You must verify the customer’s identity by following the instructions in the Dasher app before handing them an order of alcohol. They may not leave an alcohol order unattended or give it to anyone else who cannot produce valid ID (even if they claim the customer is inside and unable to come to the door).”

Maliek, aware of this rule, notes, “DoorDash fucking sends you a notification just before you pull up in front of the house and says, ‘Like yo, like blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ‘blah blah.’ So I draw him into liking his house and he says, ‘Walk out front’.”

He then says, “I text him and I’m like, ‘Yo, hey, Micah, you’ve got alcohol and I need to check your driver’s license, so I can’t leave it at your door. So is that cool?’”

While Micah conveyed that that was cool, it quickly became apparent that it wasn’t.

“He should’ve fucking told me that’s not cool because when I got there that bitch didn’t even have his goddam ID,” he says. While Micah “looked old enough,” Maliek notes that DoorDash requires an ID scan to go through the necessary steps to mark an order as delivered via the app.

He then claims Micah told him, “Stop playing with me before I beat the shit out of you.”

Maliek took offense at this, revealing that he would be of solid service to Micah and would scan his own ID to get Micah over that hurdle.

“But only because of that, man…” calls Maliek. “And I stepped on that margarita.”

Maliek ended his story by claiming, “I’m a different kind of dasher” and prompting Micah to slap him, noting, “Please brighten my day because I have all the time today.”

Commentators marveled at the story, noting, “This is just one reason I don’t deliver liquor — because of damn Micah.”

Another expressed concern about Maliek’s suggested workaround, noting, “Don’t scan for them because it may backfire on you.”

Others wondered about the missing ID of a presumed adult. As one commenter noted, “How he didn’t get his ID and he’s in the crib?”

For others, however, the story offered a different kind of hope.

“Wait,” noted one commenter. “I can order alcohol through DoorDash! I guess 2023 is NOT the year I quit drinking!”
