DoorDash driver claims customer tried to give him ‘an extra tip’

A prolific Houston TikToker who documents his driving mishaps for DoorDash claimed a customer tried to “serve” him when he made a delivery to her hotel.

The video comes from creator Maliek (@maliekr), who was featured in the Daily Dot last month when a customer tried to order alcohol without ID, threatened to hit him. Like the last one, this latest story lasts a full three minutes and adds to his online lore as his bio claims, “a regular guy living a rich life”. He posted the video to the platform on January 27, and it’s now approaching the 40,000 view mark.

The video began with the matter-of-fact on-screen caption, “This girl tried to wait on me while she smashed the door down,” before Maliek enacted the scene of him approaching a hotel with a delivery. Apparently the hotel clerk allowed Maliek to take the order to the customer’s room instead of dropping it off at reception.

Although Maliek questioned the permissiveness of what he called “this run-down damn hotel,” he made his way up to the client’s room.

“At first the girl has ‘walk out the door’ as part of the delivery instructions, but she says ‘knock first,'” Maliek said. Though taken aback by the request, he knocked only to hear the customer say, “Wait.”

Maliek stated that he didn’t want to “hold on” but just leave the order at the door; nevertheless he waited a moment. When the customer opened the door, she was only wearing a towel.

“She grabs my whole arm and is like, ‘Come in real quick,'” the TikToker said.

Not in, he claimed he pushed her away, gave her the order, and went back down the hallway to catch the elevator.

She called after him, “Are you serious?” and “You really aren’t coming in?” but Maliek expressed that he wasn’t interested in what the customer described as “an extra tip”.

“I’m like, ‘No, I’m fine. I don’t need your extra tip bro,'” he said. “‘Like, you tapped the app. That’s good enough for me.”

After expressing that the encounter was a “strange threat” and getting in the way of his goal of making money, Maliek noted that he contacted DoorDash’s driving service to avoid being paired with that person again, and received an incident report to fill out.

In the comments section, viewers had a range of reactions. Some commented that this should be every delivery driver’s dream, others registered similar alarms, and some expressed concern about the hotel’s lax security policy. However, one commenter had a suggestion on how to deal with the fateful side in Maliek’s Choose Your Own Adventure that went wrong.

“If they knock and go out the door, I’ll take a picture and knock like the cops and dive in. Don’t even wait for an answer,” the commenter noted.

The Daily Dot reached out to Maliek via TikTok direct message for comment.
