DoorDash customer says she now has to sign for every order

One TikToker said she asked DoorDash for a refund too much and now needs to sign for any future orders.

TikToker Arianna Rathbone (@ariannarathbone) posted the short video on December 13 and generated over 1.2 million views. Many of these views came from commenters who said they had similar experiences with the delivery service.

In the video, she lip-synced to a verse from Lana del Rey’s “Mariners Apartment Complex,” which read, “You mistook my kindness for weakness. I screwed up, I know that, but Jesus.”

The caption read, “When I refund my DoorDash orders even though they’ve arrived and now I have to sign for it every time I order.”

The Daily Dot reached out to Rathbone, though she made a caveat in the comments section on her video.

“Honestly, most of the time the food is a mess anyway,” she argued. “One time there was cigarette ash from the Dasher’s car cup holder on my drink. I was disgusted.”

She also noted that she usually claimed that the order was missing an item to justify the refund, rather than blaming the driver.

The DoorDash policy states, “Fees paid by you for completed and delivered orders are final and non-refundable. DoorDash is not obligated to provide any refunds or credits, but in any event may grant them at DoorDash’s sole discretion.”

Despite this policy, some commenters stated that they also tried this DoorDash “hack” and encountered similar guardrails on subsequent orders.

“Bro this happened to me,” said one commenter. “I created a new account. It was too scared to sign the orders.”

Another remarked: “As a veteran DoorDash driver, I’m not forcing anyone to sign for it. I’ll leave it at your door and put an x in the character box, lmfao. I was scared.”

A third suggested: “If you’re refunding an order, blame the shop and not the dasher as you can get them fired.”

However, another commenter said they have no hesitation in blaming a dasher, noting, “I would tell DoorDash that the delivery driver ate my food and they would always give me a refund.”

Rathbone replied, “That’s going a bit far. I never blame the driver.”

The Daily Dot reached out to DoorDash via email.
