On Doom Patrol season 4 episode 1 premiere, in the future, a cloaked figure walks through the ghost town of Cloverton. When walking, he scans the ground with a metal detector and starts digging when the device howls. When the figure next to him hears a rustling sound, he quickly turns around and reveals himself to be a cyclops.

Previously On Doom Patrol

In the present, Jane (as Dr. Harrison) is recording her findings after several months of observing the Doom Patrol. Rita has been guiding them since the end of Season 3 and so far they have completed seven successful missions with Shipley at different times and places.

Rita has codenamed them all, including Dogshit Mcgivens for Madame Rouge, who is still trying to make amends after discovering her betrayal of the Sisterhood of Dada. With jellyfish, Rita solved the time travel amnesia problem, allowing them to travel anywhere in time.

On her latest mission, Rita leads her against Codpiece, a brutal misogynist criminal who wields a large laser gun. In her observations, Dr. Harrison has survivor guilt and PTSD on Rita, while Cliff simply has low IQ and only one arm at the moment.

Without his techs, Vic, aka Cyborg, was the team’s one-man IT squad. He itches to be in the middle of the action, but when one of Codpiece’s men sprouts an ass cannon and Vic nearly dies, Rita rebukes him. dr Harrison diagnoses Vic with personality dysmorphia and cowardice.

Meanwhile, Larry and his parasite Keeg have learned to live together, although the Dr. thinks Larry still longs for a real family. Madame Rouge refuses the memory loss cure every time in order to forget her own betrayal, and Dr. Harrison diagnoses her with self-loathing and sociopathy.

Instead of Jane, Dr. Harrison used her specific psychological talents to help the Doom Patrol take down villains peacefully. However, she is still busy part-time visiting Jane in the underworld and talking about Kay, who is still missing. dr Harrison thinks Jane is hiding.

According to the Doc, Jane must be relieved to let go of her responsibilities as the main character and feel guilty that Kay disappeared under her watch. Although Jane agreed that Dr. Leaving Harrison in charge while Kay is away is clearly a difficult relationship.

On course

On the surface, Vic and his father are working on Cliff’s new arm, and Silas asks him to take his time to find happiness. When the arm is complete, Silas and Vic tell Cliff that he will eventually be able to feel his entire hand as the new arm contains nanobots that will bring back some feeling. T

The first thing Cliff wants to feel is his brand new grandson, and when he suggests taking the time machine to Florida, the other Doom Patrol members convince Rita that it’s a good idea. Before they leave, Madame Rouge tells Rita that when she returns she will look for another place to live.

On her trip to Florida, Rita insists that Madame Rouge carry the jellyfish so she will remember her promise to leave. On their journey, they hear a woman scream before coming face-to-face with Isabel Feathers, a woman who fell through Rouge’s portal upon arrival in Cloverton.

After meeting Isabel in the time stream, Shipley, the gang’s time machine, is thrown off course and they end up in the future ghost town version of Cloverton. With Shipley needing time to cool off, the Doom Patrol head to the abandoned city to see what they can find.

double vision

When Rita finds wieners and skittles in a bowl at the abandoned mansion, Cliff can’t help but grab one, and the entire team is trapped in a metal cage. Her captor turns out to be the rusty future version of Cyclops, equipped with detachable technology, welcoming the gang in 2024.

Future Cyclops explains that 20 years ago there was a Buttpocalypse that the Doom Patrol believed was preventing by killing the Butts in a massive fight. Now the asses have been zombified and have taken over Earth while the remaining future Doom Patrol go into hiding.

2024 Vic takes Madame Rouge aside to tell her that there is no future version of her as she disappeared right before the Buttpocalypse and probably died. All of the other members of the squad meet their future ghost selves, which is trippy for everyone involved.

Future Rita is in a death loop and she tells Rita that neither of them made good Doom Patrol leaders. dr Harrison is confronted by her ghost telling her that it is her fault that the girl (Kay) is dying as she is too interested in psychoanalyzing the whole group.

They don’t want to know

Cliff’s ghost immediately gets down to business, telling the living Cliff never to touch his grandson, while Larry’s ghost lies on the ground and rocks back and forth. When Larry tries to release Larry’s version of Keeg in 2024, he finds an older version of the ghost living outside of the ghost.

While the rest of the group encounters itself in 2024, Madame Rouge reads the future Vic’s notes from the beginning of the apocalypse and finds several drawings of Vic’s attempts to build a time machine. Below, she finds today’s Vic tied up and taped over.

45 minutes earlier, the 2024 versions of the Doom Patrol agreed to distract their past selves while Vic Shipley stole so they could return to a time before the Buttpocolypse. The future Vic insists that the current Vic is not in a headspace where he can understand what needs to be done.

Thanks to Madame Rouge, the rest of the gang arrives to take care of the future Vic when zombie butts arrive en masse and try to eat everyone. The present Vic doesn’t want to leave until he hears what the future Vic has to say, so Madame Rouge distracts him while Rita grabs him.

You can’t have everything

Returning to their present, Vic discovers that the 2024 version of him carved the words “You can’t have everything” on the ship before he was eaten by zombie butts. Back at the manor, Larry is upset that he can’t communicate with an obviously anxious Keeg.

In the underground, Jane tells Dr. Harrison admits that she was right, she hid in Kay’s memories to recover from being in elementary school for so long. When Jane insists that she is ready to resurface after seeing the future, Dr. Harrison up and Kay stays in her place.

Jane is thrilled to see Kay, but the girl warns Jane not to follow her before sending Jane back as a high school student with a bag full of puzzle pieces. After Rita puts away the costume she wore as the leader of the group, Madame Rouge tells her that she has no intention of leaving after all.

In typical Doom Patrol style, Rita wraps things up nicely by saying, “Isn’t that just the crappy cherry on top of a crappy sundae made of shit?”.
