‘Don’t be afraid to try new things’: Two Oklahoma girls enter the playoffs – Boston News, Weather, Sports

A couple of older Wewoka High School softball players traded their bats for a pigskin one.

The Oklahoma high school boys’ football team was down two players just before the playoff game due to injuries. As the coaches struggled to find a solution, Natalie Davis and Callie Ramsey offered to play.

“They are both excellent athletes for our district,” said the athletic director. “They came to me and the coaches and volunteered to step up. They practiced with us for three days.”

Her performance was impressive as one of the girls stepped up and made a tackle to the same game.

“Natalie winning the punting and kick job was just the icing on the cake,” said the director.

While the team lost the game 47-14, the new recruits allowed them to stay in the playoffs.

“If they hadn’t stood up and tried to help us play, we probably would have given up and been eliminated from the playoffs,” the director said. “So, these two young ladies who stood up for us have been a huge impact.”

He said the example they are setting is bigger than the one game.

“Regardless of male or female, stand up for your classmates and do what is right,” he said. “One of the things that Callie and Natalie said was, ‘Don’t be afraid to try new things.'”
