Embattled attorney Rudy Giuliani has reportedly been told he is a target in a Georgia criminal investigation into election manipulation by his longtime client, ex-President Donald Trump.
Prosecutors said Monday that attorney Robert Costello was targeting his client, The New York Times reported.
Giuliani, who is scheduled to appear before a grand jury in an Atlanta courthouse on Wednesday, would likely invoke attorney-client privilege if questioned on Trump-related matters, Costello said.
“If these people think he’s going to talk about talks between him and President Trump, they’re delusional,” Costello told the newspaper.
Costello told CNN that “this comes after we’ve probably asked him six or seven times” if Giuliani is a target. Costello would not say if Giuliani plans to invoke his Fifth Amendment right to decline to answer questions to avoid self-incrimination.
Giuliani, who is no longer Trump’s personal attorney, has pushed Trump’s allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and sought to keep him in the White House.
The report comes hours after Atlanta District Court Judge Leigh Martin May ruled that Senator Lindsey Graham must comply with a special grand jury subpoena.
