Former President Donald Trump’s last-minute offer to delay a civil rape trial was rejected by a judge.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan said in a 10-page opinion released Monday that there is “no justification for an adjournment” in the lawsuit filed by columnist E. Jean Carroll.

“This case is unrelated to the prosecution,” Kaplan wrote, referring to the criminal charges Trump is facing in New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s hush money investigation.

“The suggestion that recent media coverage of the indictment in New York — coverage that was significantly (though certainly not entirely) stimulated or provoked by Mr Trump’s own actions — would preclude the selection of a fair and impartial jury on April 25 , is pure speculation.

“The same goes for his suggestion that delaying the start of this process by a month would ‘cool down’ everything, even if a ‘cool down’ was necessary.
