A man with an anti-Donald Trump bumper sticker, who appeared to be hearing “voices in his head,” rammed his car into a store selling memorabilia for the former president.

Sean Flaherty, 46, crashed his Volkswagen Jetta in New England just after 5 p.m. Thursday for the Trump gift store in Easton, Massachusetts, police said.

Surveillance footage of the incident posted to Facebook by the Easton Police Department showed pro-Trump shirts, hats and other souvenirs flying from the impact. The 1991 Nirvana song Smells Like Teen Spirit could be heard from the vehicle.

An employee at the store, Karla Kelley, said there had been no previous argument that prompted the man to “drive into the building off the street.”

All the man said was, “The voices in his head were telling him to do it,” Kelley told FOX Business. There was an “anti-Trump sticker” on his car, she added.

A friend of Flaherty’s claimed it had “nothing to do with Trump or anything political.”

“It was just an unfortunate coincidence,” the unnamed friend told WCVB. “He wasn’t mentally in the right frame of mind. He’s been through a lot in the past year.”

However, a photographer from Brockton Enterprise tweeted images showing the rear of Flaherty’s 2015 Jetta with at least one anti-Trump statement. Next to an image of Trump’s face with a rectangular barcode resembling dictator Adolf Hitler’s mustache was a Voltaire quote: “Those whom you can make to believe absurdities, you can make to commit atrocities.”

The store’s owner, Keith Lambert, was not present at the time of the crash but told the Brocktown Enterprise that “it’s very unsettling to think that anyone would do something like this.”

Lambert owns six pro-Trump stores in the area, the first he opened in 2019 after struggling to find a Make America Great Again hat in blue New England.

The Easton store opened the day after the incident.

Flaherty was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property and could face further charges. He is likely to be charged in Taunton District Court.
