Dominic Cummings branded the Prime Minister a “sociopathic narcissist” for his handling of Partygate in another scathing blog post about No10.
The former Downing Street adviser said it was “deeply despicable” Boris Johnson had allowed the reputation of junior officers to be tarnished over the ongoing inquiries into alleged parties taking place in Whitehall during the Covid pandemic.
The first fines for violations of the lockdown rules are said to have been delivered on Friday, and the recipients are said to be lower-level officials.
However, Cummings argues that the staff were used as a scapegoat and as a means of diverting attention from the prime minister and his close aides, who were in charge of the gatherings.
“It is deeply despicable that not only the Prime Minister but senior officials have allowed their reputation to be attacked to protect the sociopathic narcissist huddled in apartment #10,” he wrote in a blog post.
He claimed everyone close to Mr Johnson knew that he had “encouraged” “media attacks” on the younger staff to divert attention from him and his wife Carrie Johnson’s own breaches of social distancing rules.
Anyone who “supports” the prime minister should be ashamed, he added, insisting some “very senior officials have turned a blind eye”.
He called on each and every one of them to resign or, failing that, to be “swept out” of the Cabinet Office and Downing Street by Mr Johnson’s successor.
“Ministers should realize that they must defend their defense of the sociopath for the rest of their lives. Your last chance to escape this shame is to resign in the next 12 weeks,” he said.
The first tranche of the sentencing notices are believed to be related to a June 2020 resignation hearing for Private Secretary Number 10, Hannah Young, at the Cabinet Office.
Mr Cummings claimed some of the staff who received firm penalties through Partygate were “young women who were essentially told to attend”.
The meeting was organized and attended by Martin Reynolds, the prime minister’s key private secretary, who has since been “transferred to a diplomatic post,” he added.
‘[Mr Reynolds] was responsible for ensuring that the events in #10 were consistent not only with the rules but also with basic ethical standards. He’s the person I and others said to in May, “This BYOB event shouldn’t be happening,” Mr. Cummings wrote.
