Doctor Strange 2 fans think it should have been called a Scarlet Witch movie

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Strange 2.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now officially out, which means Marvel fans can finally set their eyes on one of the most anticipated MCU films to date. There was a lot of hype surrounding the reality-breaking sequel, especially as it marks the wizard’s first solo film since 2016. But coincidentally, another character steals the show from Benedict Cumberbatch’s crusader in disguise.
Spoilers to follow!
While Stephen Strange is the play’s hero, the film quickly makes it clear that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is its main villain, who was corrupted following the events of Darkhold WandaVision. Since it ties so closely to her Disney Plus show and sees Wanda undergo a huge character change, it’s easy to argue that Doctor Strange 2 is actually more of a Scarlet Witch movie than a Strange movie.
At least many agree on this when the first discussions about the film are sparked on the Internet. In an initial reaction thread on the MarvelStudios subreddit, many people felt that Wanda’s arc overtook the film. Which is positive for some…
But for others it’s a big disadvantage…
Since marketing tricked us into believing Wanda would be more of an ally or supporting actress, some feel this was the wrong approach as it meant we were prepared for a completely different experience.
On the other hand, a subset of fans loved the Wanda twist and felt she was the right antagonist for the film.
While this wasn’t an official Scarlet Witch flick, maybe in the future we can get one that pits two Wandas against each other. Hey, Elizabeth Olsen would probably be up for it.
See Scarlet Witch in — um, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now in cinemas.
