Distington: Girl, 14, and man, 58, killed in house fire

Tragedy struck when a 14-year-old girl and a 58-year-old man died in a house fire this morning.

The fire broke out just before 5am at a property in Distington, Cumbria.

The victims died at the scene in Toll Bar Houses.

Neighboring homes have been evacuated and there are no other reported injuries.

The cause is unknown and Cumbria Police and Fire and Rescue Services are working together to investigate.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area as emergency services continue to investigate the devastating incident.

A number of roads remain closed including the A595 southbound between the roundabout near Dobies’ dealership and the roundabout at Howgate.

The A597 is closed between the roundabout near the Toyota dealership and the Hallywood Road junction.

The B5306 is now closed between the roundabout near the Toyota dealership and the Barfs Road junction.

The North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
