Diogo Jota has branded Darwin Nunez a ‘good player’ amid reports Liverpool are inching a deal for the Benfica forward.

The 22-year-old has caused quite a stir this season, scoring 34 goals in all competitions, including six in the Bundesliga Champions League.

Nunez has scored in every first leg of Benfica’s Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool – the team trying to sign him this summer.

The Reds are reportedly ready to smash their transfer record as they have started talks with the Portuguese club over an £85million move for the Uruguay international.

Should the above fee be agreed, it would eclipse the £75million they paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018

Manchester United have also been linked with Nunez but the player is said to be in favor of a move to Anfield.

While Liverpool forward Jota would not address the possibility of the Merseyside club signing Nunez, he did admit the forward is a “good player” having faced the Reds last season.

During his international stint for Portugal, Jota said: “I don’t know, I’m concentrating on the national team. The market will move, I have no idea what the signings might be.

“I’ve had the opportunity to play him and he’s a good player but I can’t say anything else at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are on the hunt for Sadio Mane, who is said to have informed Liverpool of his desire to leave Anfield this summer.

However, the club have reportedly reacted angrily to Bayern’s second £23.5million offer with an additional surcharge of around £6.5million.
