Dillard’s customer takes over checkout, cashier is too slow

A TikToker says she had to handle a checkout line at a Dillard’s department store because the cashier was too slow in a now-viral video, sparking debate in the comments.

The video posted by TikToker Shaunya Manus (@shaunyamanus) on December 27 has garnered over 492,000 views. In the clip, she shows several pictures of her standing next to the cash register and typing something on the cash register.

“If you don’t have time to wait for the cashier… get in and type for her,” reads the text overlay.

In the comments, viewers speculated that Manus stepped in to help the cashier “spell” something.

“Oh god we couldn’t spell that this time,” said one commenter.

“Me yesterday while showing the clerk how to make a gallon of paint the color I wanted,” wrote another.

“I’ve had to help so many Walgreen cashiers in this way, too,” added a third.

In a follow-up video, Manus says she spelled her name for the cashier when trying to open a Dillard department store’s credit card when a language barrier began to hamper the process. To speed things up, she said she offered to fill out the necessary information herself.

“She was super amazing, it was just a communication barrier,” she says in the video.

Others were more hesitant about the practice of accessing cash registers and computers as a customer and its impact on the employee being held accountable.

“Please don’t make this a habit, our shop used to ban things like this and we could get in trouble if we let customers behind the counter,” said one commenter.

“No patience at all… Don’t know if clerk was at lunch or toilet break… smh,” wrote another.

“That poor worker,” added a third.

The Daily Dot contacted Manus via TikTok comment and Dillard via email.
