A young girl remains in hospital after being stabbed to death yesterday afternoon.

The 14-year-old student was seriously injured around 1.10pm at Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury, south Manchester.

The attack is said to have happened on the playground and parents were briefed about the incident.

The girl was taken to the hospital, but her condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

A 14-year-old boy had been arrested by Greater Manchester Police.

She was stabbed with a “sharp instrument” rather than a knife.

A police spokesman said: “Greater Manchester Police were called at around 1.10pm this afternoon, Tuesday 24 January, to reports of an incident at a school at Parrs Wood High School on Wilmslow Road, East Didsbury.

“Colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service were also at the scene where a 14-year-old girl suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, believed to have been caused by a sharp instrument.

“She remains hospitalized for treatment and is being assisted by specially trained investigators.

“A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

“One scene still exists as the investigation continues. GMP is working with the local authority and school to ensure that the right care and support is provided to any child affected by these events.’
