PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Dick Vermeil has won and is a Super Bowl title with the St. Louis Rams officially admitted inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame beginning Saturday.
Dick Vermeil, who is revered in Philadelphia, quit coaching and left town before returning to the NFL and completing his Hall of Fame resume in other cities.
After a Super Bowl XXXIV championship with the Rams and coaching experience with the Kansas City Chiefs, he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an Eagle.
Cherished by football fans in St. Louis, vermeil is as much a part of the Philadelphia fabric as cheesesteak and Rocky Balboa. The 85-year-old is still emblazoned on billboards for an insurance company.
