Homestead, Fla. – Miami-Dade detectives are investigating the drowning of a 3-year-old boy in Homestead on Friday night. The boy was diagnosed with nonverbal autism.

Captain Fernando Morales, a spokesman for the Homestead Police Department, said officers responded to a gated community in the area of ​​Northeast Sixth Street and Northeast 21st Terrace.

Divers from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue have recovered the child’s body from a detention pool behind a row of houses.

Officials asked anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
