Denver: Carpenter thinks he saw Jesus staring at him in the closet

As the most famous carpenter of all time, Jesus must have known something about kitchen cabinets.
They say the Lord works in mysterious ways, but what other possible explanation can there be for his image appearing in a furniture workshop in Exeter, Devon?
Mat Askham was applying an oil-based varnish to the inside of a cabinet when he spotted a Christ-like face staring at him from the knots in the wood.
The 51-year-old is now considering closing the shop and turning the workshop into a place of pilgrimage.
“I’m making a kitchen for someone, and it wasn’t until I treated it with oil to bring out the detail in the grain that it mysteriously appeared in front of me,” he said.
“I was like, ‘Oh my god, look at that, there’s a face staring at me.’ It looked at me, I looked at it and I had to take a picture of it immediately because it was just so funny.
“It’s really quite crazy. You can see two eyes, a nose, a bit of a mustache and a goatee. The ears are covered by the hair on the side.
“It’s creepy that my very Christian friend came up to me, we’ve talked for half an hour and chewed the fat for the past 20 years.
“Five minutes later I saw the face of Jesus in a kitchenette. These things don’t happen every day.’
A friend of his suggested that he “build a shrine and ask people to come in.”
Mat’s partner Nicola also wrote to him, joking that he had “discovered Jesus”.
He said: “It’s really ridiculous, but it’s incredibly funny. People can’t stop laughing about it.”
The father-of-three shared a picture of the piece of wood on social media, and to his surprise, it garnered more than 1,300 likes, shares and comments.
Many people agree with the resemblance, while others suggest the face is more akin to William Shakespeare, Chewbacca, and even Bigfoot.
Mat said: “A lot of people have commented on it, you can interpret it in a lot of ways.
“I immediately thought it was a cross between Jesus and a hunting dog. The face is now in a two-door shaker cabinet.
“Every time the customer opens that door, that face will stare at them. You don’t know about it yet.”
