Several people have been shot dead in a shopping center in Denmark.

Police rushed to the scene of the crime “in large numbers” at Copenhagen’s Field shopping center tonight.

A 22-year-old man, described by police as ethnically Danish, has been arrested.

The police have not ruled out a terrorist connection.

The exact number of dead has not been confirmed.

Local media reports that three people have been admitted to a trauma center in one of the capital’s main hospitals.

The attack happened hours before Harry Styles was scheduled to perform at a concert venue less than a mile away. Organizers said the gig would go ahead anyway.

In a Snapchat message, the British singer wrote: “My team and I are praying for everyone involved in the Copenhagen shopping center shooting. I’m shocked.’

Images show men, women and children fleeing the mall, with heavily armed police also pictured in the area.

Speaking to the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, eyewitness Emilie Jeppesen said: “They didn’t know what was happening. Suddenly there was chaos everywhere.

“We were sitting there wanting to eat and suddenly we saw people running.

“Then at first we thought, ‘Why do people run?’ But then we heard gunshots.

Other viewers said people cried and hid from the gunfire in shops.

The Copenhagen police said officers don’t have the opportunity to say more about them at this time [arrested] identity of a person”.

The force initially tweeted: “We are in large numbers and a massive presence in Fields where we have received reports of shootings.

‘We will update here as soon as we know more about the current situation.’

They later added: “We are still present, shots were fired and several people were hit. We work on site.
