The mother died on Tuesday surrounded by her family

Profound footage was shown on BBC documentary Deborah James: The Last Dance tonight.

The private moment shows Deborah lying on the sofa while her loved ones stand around her.

The family have been celebrating their BowelBabe Fund, which has raised more than £7million since Debs announced last month that she would be receiving palliative care at her parents’ home in Surrey.

Her son Hugo, 14, claps and cheers as his mother sees a new total on a laptop screen.

Dame Deborah James' family shares a heartfelt message the day after her death

An interview that Deborah recorded with the BBC a few weeks ago was broadcast alongside the clips.

In it, she spoke of her pride in raising money for other Britons suffering from cancer.

Her voice breaking, she said: “I just can’t thank people enough for their generosity because it kind of means so much to me.

“It makes me feel absolutely loved. It makes me feel like at the end we’re all in this together and we all want to make a difference and we’re like, ‘You know what, fuck your cancer, we can do better. we can make people better’.”

Viewers shared their sadness on social media after seeing the tender scene.

One said: “Just watched the tribute to Dame Deborah James on BBC1.

“Gosh, that was beautiful, but incredibly sad.”

Another said the program “captured her spirit and zest for life perfectly.”

And a third said: “I was torn to pieces.

“Such an inspiration, but at the same time so heartbreaking. So much love for her family.”

Friends like Lorraine Kelly and Gaby Roslin were among those paying tribute in the document.

Meanwhile, Deborah’s parents urged viewers to raise a glass in memory of her while watching the show and shared a photo of them clinking red wine glasses.

They have encouraged their legions of supporters across the country to continue donating to the BowelBabe Fund to “give more Deborahs more time.”

After learning last month that she would be receiving hospice care at the end of her life, the activist began fundraising in earnest.

She wrote a chart-topping book and designed a sold-out fashion collection for In The Style to raise money.

Her legions of fans across the country learned of her death in an Instagram post shared from her account on Tuesday night.

It read: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dame Deborah James; the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mom.

THE BRIGHTEST STAR

“Deborah passed away peacefully today surrounded by her family.”

Debs herself had added a postscript to the message.

In a special message to her fans, she said: “Find a life worth enjoying; To take risks; to love deeply; regret nothing; and always, always have rebellious hope.

“And finally, check your poop — it could save your life.”

Last month, Deborah was given a maiden dignity in just 24 hours after the Sun readers made calls to honor her.

Normally, damehoods and knighthoods are only announced twice a year in either the New Year Honors or Queen’s Birthday Honors.

NATIONAL TREASURE

But because of Deborah’s circumstances, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and No 10 pulled out all the stops.

In an “unprecedented” move, Prince William cleared his diary to pay his respects at a tea party at her parents’ home.

He and Kate Middleton paid tribute to Deborah this morning.

“We are so sad to hear the heartbreaking news about Dame Deborah,” they said in a post on Twitter.

“Our thoughts are with her children, family and loved ones.

“Deborah was an inspirational and unwaveringly courageous woman whose legacy will live on.”

In light of the passing of Dame Deborah James, we have re-released the Fabulous Magazines Podcast episode Things I Told My Daughter featuring Deborah and her daughter. Here you can listen.
