Britain’s highest paid male model David Gandy has revealed that growing up he believed he was so unattractive that he couldn’t get dates.
When Alan Carr, on his podcast Life’s a Beach, suggested David was popular with girls as a teenager, the 42-year-old, who guest-starred on the episode, shot back: “Those weren’t my good years.
“I think you have a different impression, I grew up and then grew up so I wasn’t in my best fighting form.”
A stunned Alan then quipped, “You were wrong?”
To which David replied: ‘Not far away!’
The fashion star recently told the Daily Mail’s Eden Confidential that he’s not happy with his aging.
He said: “I’m not particularly happy with how I look at the moment. I’m not at what I call my fighting weight…
“The two things that scare me are that your ears and nose seem to keep growing.”
However, the Essex-born star is still enjoying a successful career 15 years after becoming a household name.
He rose to fame in 2007 thanks to a now-iconic Dolce & Gabbana ad, in which he wore tiny, tight-fitting white briefs.
The tanned star’s picture even appeared on a 50-foot billboard in Times Square in New York.
He revealed: “I’ve never seen the damn thing. I don’t wear much, it’s a big squat for Times Square and everyone took pictures of it but I never saw it.
Since then he has been dubbed “the first male supermodel” and has starred in fashion campaigns with the likes Scarlett JohanssonNaomi Campbell and Gisele Bundchen.
He has also graced the covers of numerous top fashion magazines such as GQ, racked up lucrative endorsements with the likes of Hugo Boss and Carolina Herrera, and was a face of high street brand Marks and Spencer.
David’s luck with the ladies has long changed as well as he has dated some stunning women including former The Saturdays singer Mollie King.
David, who was clearly enjoying his candid interview with comedian Alan, took to Instagram on Thursday and told his followers what a “huge pleasure it was to be on the @chattyman podcast, had an absolute blast… the only problem is, too.” try to talk when you’re laughing so much.’
The star, who is worth an estimated £12million, has daughters Matilda, three, and Tabitha, four months, with lawyer friend Stephanie Mendoros.
David has been dating attorney Stephanie for five years and tries to keep their relationship mostly out of the spotlight.
