David Fifita re-signs with Titans through the end of 2026

The preseason form of the man, who played five State of Origin games for Queensland, was excellent and Fifita backed it up with a man-of-the-match performance in defeating the Wests Tigers.

Fifita went to school on the Gold Coast at Keebra Park High and recently said his relationship with Titan’s half and former schoolmate Tanah Boyd could be a factor in his decision.

“We have a good connection,” Fifita said.

“He’s one of my best friends. It’s really good to have him there. We’re guys from Keebra Park and we went through a good system there.”

Fifita’s commitment to the Titans is a spur to Holbrook and a validation of the work he’s done recruiting players for his winning forward.

“We asked Dave to work hard and since he came back from the Worlds he has done that,” Holbrook told AAP last month.

“It’s up to us as coaches, the halves and Dave himself to all work together to get the best out of him.

“What we did in recruiting experienced hooker Sam Verrills and an experienced half at Kieran Foran will also help his game. We feel like we did everything right here to allow him to play at his best.”

Fifita joins skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, fellow back rower Beau Fermor and fullback AJ Brimson under contracts through the end of 2026 to give the Titans a base from which to build a strong team.

The Canberra Raiders have long been in the hunt for Fifita and AAP was told his manager had recently put feelers out to the Broncos to gauge their interest.
