Rugby Australia has dropped a bombshell by sacking Wallabies manager Dave Rennie with immediate effect.
Rennie will be replaced by Eddie Jones at the 2023 World Cup. Jones, the former Wallabies coach who was in charge from 2001 to 2005, has signed a five-year deal that will take him through to the 2027 World Cup.
Jones will also oversee the Wallaroos program which is set to stun Australian rugby.
Jones, who was sacked as England manager late last year, will join RA on January 28, just over eight months ahead of the Rugby World Cup in France.
Rennie was informed by RA that his services were no longer needed after three years on the job after a year that included five wins from 14 Tests.
A winning record of 38 percent wasn’t enough for Rennie to keep his job.
In a statement to the heraldRA Chairman Hamish McLennan confirmed the news.
“It’s a huge coup for Australian rugby to have the best coach in the world return home to coach the legendary Wallabies and oversee the Wallaroos program,” said McLennan.
