Dan Walker spoke about his future on BBC Breakfast, stressing that he doesn’t plan to be on the show for as long as his predecessor Bill Turnbull.

On February 29, 2016, Dan, 44, made his morning show debut, as he celebrated on Twitter about being with his ‘new TV wife’ Louise Minchin on the sofa.

Six years later, the presenter has spoken out about how long he sees himself leading the show – and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

However, he admits he will have limits as he currently doesn’t see himself as a good fit for Bill’s term, which spanned from 2001 to 2016.

Speaking to The Mirror to mark his six-year anniversary, Dan was asked how long he could stay at BBC Breakfast, following Louise’s departure last summer.

‘I really do not know. Honestly, I can’t say I’ll be here in 10 years because who knows? ‘ he say.

“I certainly wouldn’t stay as long as Bill Turnbull knocked on the door,” he said.

‘I love new challenges, but I love this challenge. And I really love the show and I love working with people so I don’t see myself going anywhere anytime soon. ‘

In October 2021, it was confirmed that Sally Nugent will replace Louise on BBC Breakfast, joining Dan, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt as the main presenter.

Louise, who has been on the show for more than 20 years, said in a statement announcing her departure: ‘I’ve decided it’s time for me to stop setting my alarm at 3:40am.’

Speaking on the air, she said: ‘This year, it’s been 20 years since I first presented this program. Since then, I’ve felt like part of a big BBC Breakfast family that includes everyone who works here, everyone on the team and all of you who watch the show. I love being a part of it. ‘

On Monday 28 February 2022, Dan shared a tweet with a picture of himself and Sally on the BBC Breakfast sofa, showing them sitting closer together following social distancing protocols. applied due to the pandemic.

“Yes… we are sitting closer together for the first time in two years,” he said.

‘I hope you’re okay this morning. We have #BBCBreakfast busy with the latest on the war in Ukraine and the rest of the news. ‘

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
