Daley Blind believes Manchester United have made an ingenious decision to hire Erik ten Hag as their new manager but have warned the club’s players that their new boss is a “control freak”.

The 52-year-old was named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent successor last month and will start his big rebuilding task in earnest.

United have ditched the services of interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who was supposed to be in an advisory role but has instead taken up a post with the Austria national team.

Ten Hag is hoping to oversee a major overhaul of the playing staff this summer, but whoever arrives or stays is Blind, who has restarted his career under his compatriot at Ajax, having left United, believe their old manager is the best man for the job.

“He’s really sociable,” Blind told United’s official website. “I think even at Ajax he knows that everyone at the club is important. Everyone has to be involved to get that winning feeling, that winning mentality.

“Everyone has to point in the same direction. He is aware of this and wants to keep everything close. He is also a control freak and always wants to keep an overview. I think that’s a special quality you have to have when you’re that good.

“I think he’s a brilliant coach. A manager who loves to play attacking football, which is what Manchester stands for.

“I think he’s a manager who knows what he wants. He knows exactly how to get it across to the team and express that and keep everyone on board, all heading in the same direction to achieve that winning mentality and win trophies.

“Hard to say,” added Blind when asked when United can win top honors again. “I’m not going to burn my hands on that, but I think the most important thing is that the team shows a style of play and people can see that on the pitch.

“I think if that’s going to happen, winning will be easier. Winning earns you trophies. I don’t know when that will happen.

“I know this manager has the quality and I hope he gets the time to do everything his way and make sure the team plays the way he wants it to. I am confident that he will be successful.’
