Customer says he was billed $1,200 at Dave & Buster

A Dave & Buster customer says he was mistakenly charged for the entire balance of his bank account in a now-viral TikTok.

TikTok user Cheyenne (@keepcalmliveon) posted the video on March 12. As of March 14, the video received over 429,000 views. In the video, Cheyenne says they were trying to close their bill at Dave & Buster when the bartender mistakenly billed them $1,200.

“When he hands me my receipt, he realizes it. He’s like, ‘I don’t know what happened,'” they say in the clip. “I really think there is something wrong with the machine.”

They say the waiter crossed off the wrong amount and fixed the transaction so they left thinking the issue would be resolved shortly. However, when Cheyenne woke up the next day, they said her bank account had been emptied.

“I call my bank and they say they can’t dispute the charge because they say it’s outstanding,” says Cheyenne.

Cheyenne goes on to say that they have decided to return to Dave & Buster. A manager looked at the situation and even compensated for the food; However, the manager could not identify a $1,200 fee.

In the comments section, viewers suggested solutions that would allow Cheyenne to get her money back faster.

“It’s the credit card company. The manager needs to call the processor, give them their merchant ID, and the processor can fix it,” one user wrote.

“Contact the company through their website, they will give you compensation,” offered another.

Others cautioned against keeping a large chunk of cash in a checking account to avoid catastrophic mistakes like this one.

“I’m sorry that happened… this is a good example of why using a debit card for everyday purchases is a bad idea,” commented one viewer.

“That’s why I only take cash with me. I’ve seen it happen too many times with friends and family,” shared another.

“Do not use a debit card for purchases, only for your bank’s ATM. Credit cards have MUCH more consumer protection,” added a third.

In a follow-up video, Cheyenne says they got all their money back and Dave & Buster eventually cleared their entire check.
